New mechanisms for steroid pro-atherogenic action: Up regulation of macrophage LDL receptors, down regulation of cholesterol efflux transporters and increase in intracellular cholesterol stores

      Aim. We recently showed that steroids are pro-athrogenic not only because of metabolic effects, but also through the direct induction of cholesterol accumulation in human macrophages. In this study we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying such effect.
