Transcriptome analysis of human macrophages reveals genes regulating cellular cholesterol efflux

Aim: HDL plays an important role in cholesterol metabolism through a mechanism known as reverse cholesterol transport. In this study, we applied a bioinformatics approach to identify genes that change their expression in macrophages upon exposure to HDL. Furthermore, we evaluated the role of such genes in cellular cholesterol efflux mediated by HDL.
