2.6 Cholesterol efflux and reverse cholesterol transport| Volume 275, e169, August 2018

A link exists between hdl cholesterol efflux capacity and plasma gut microbiota metabolite levels in subjects with calcific aortic valve stenosis

Aim: Calcific aortic stenosis may be a manifestation of atherosclerosis. HDL-cholesterol efflux capacity(HDL-CEC) has been demonstrated to predict both prevalence of atherosclerosis and incidence of cardiovascular events. A connection established between atherosclerosis and the gut microbiota metabolites has recently suggested their impact on lipid metabolism. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the HDL- CEC in a population with varying degrees of aortic valve calcification and investigate its relationship with gut microbiota metabolites.
